The Norfolk Healthy Child Service Crucial Crew session focusses on children's emotional wellbeing.
Emotional wellbeing is an important part of children's overall wellbeing, just like physical health. Lots of young children will struggle with their feelings at times. It may be when they are tired, unwell or facing challenges in their lives.
On this page you'll find information and resources that can support children with their emotional wellbeing. Several of these activities are covered within our Crucial Crew sessions.
Emotions and Feelings
Lots of young children will struggle with their feelings at times. It may be when they are tired, unwell or facing challenged in their lives.
When children can recognise and talk about different feelings it helps them have a better understanding of how to deal with them. These activities will help children talk about feelings and think about how to cope with difficult emotions in a positive way.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the slowing down and noticing of the things around you. It is a good way for children to relax and manage stress and worries. Different activities and exercises are designed to clear their thoughts and help them appreciate their feelings. They offer a good distraction and some space to calm down.
Mindfulness can be a useful tool when children go through a stressful or distressing period of life, they are having emotional health issues, or they are dealing with conflict at home or in school.
Resilience is a word we use to describe people being able to manage when things change or become more challenging.
Resilient people can keep going even when times are hard, and have confidence that they can cope. When people are resilient, disappointments and sadness will still happen, but the person’s inner strength and determination carries them through. Life is easier if we are resilient people.
Healthy habits where children learn to care for themselves, physically and emotionally, give a strong foundation for resilience to grow. Resilience will help children to cope with the many experiences and challenges that life brings.
